GAIL MALLIMSON BIOGRAPHY

For many years, I worked as an editor of documentary films, many of which can be viewed on this site. In 2021, inspired by the work of a cartoonist I saw on a dating site, I began my graphic novel career. I both write and draw, and my current project is an autobiographical book called, “It’s Never the Right Time”. “It’s Never the Right Time” is a graphic novel about my lifelong feminist quest to create my own identity and live my life on my own terms, while navigating a culture that prefers that women serve others and submit to being defined by them. This attempt to (sometimes clumsily) balance completely opposing forces has been a driving factor in my life. At times it’s been incredibly liberating, but it has also made my existence as a femme heterosexual…vexing. “It’s Never the Right Time” depicts my experimental attempts to work through this when I was a young woman, and now when I’m old enough to be a grandma.
