GAIL MALLIMSON BIOGRAPHY

For many years, I worked as an editor of documentary films. In 2021, inspired by the work of a cartoonist I saw on a dating site, I began writing and drawing graphic novel/comics. My current project is an autobiographical book called, “It’s Never the Right Time”. The book is about my lifelong feminist quest to create my own identity and live my life on my own terms, while navigating a culture that prefers that women serve others and submit to being defined by them. This attempt to (sometimes clumsily) balance completely opposing forces has been a driving factor in my life. At times it’s been incredibly liberating, but it has also made my existence as a femme heterosexual…vexing. “It’s Never the Right Time” depicts my experimental attempts to work through this when I was a young woman, and now when I’m old enough to be a grandma.
